PERSONALITY:
Shen Wei is not the sort of person who goes out of their way to stand out. He blends in pretty well in an academic setting, being on the other side of Dragon City University's campus population. Despite his relatively and presumptively youthful age, Shen Wei dresses and acts every bit the part of an aged university professor, down to dress shirt, suspenders, and sleeve garters. His large rimless glasses dull his otherwise pretty features, lending him a rather unassuming appearance. He is a post-modern Clark Kent, if he ever bothered to watch TV. His mild mannered demeanor and genuine good-heartedness make him a favorite among his students, his old fashioned manners downright gentlemanly. As far as the professor is concerned, he would rather go about his life on earth unnoticed. After all, he is a man on a mission, and that mission to watch over the most important person in his life, preferably from a distance. His penchant for solitude and rather introverted attitude aren't the main reasons for Shen Wei's reserved nature. Having been born in the darkness and eventually becoming the Ghost Slayer, the judge, jury, and executioner of the Underground, Shen Wei is merely a public face he dons to best integrate into human society, in which he has been living merely for the past few decades of his 10,000 years of life.

This comes with some considerable setbacks, such as all his insecurities and self-consciousness coming to the forefront. Somewhat shy, Shen Wei is all too aware of not being human. Speaking on the phone causes him some mild terror of being watched while his devotion to being a gentleman renders him terminally incapable of lying to save his life. He is visibly intimidated by and uncomfortable with technology, a literal alien in his efforts to blend in and cultivate a human persona. This brings forth most of Shen Wei's wishy-washiness, rendering him easily flustered and embarrassed for all his initial composure. He is all too adept at keeping a cool head under fire, the picture of a rational academic until things turn personal--or touch on his personal mission. After all, and for all Shen Wei is concerned, he exists to pay back the one person responsible for his happiness and purpose in life. Ever since the reincarnation of Kunlun, the mountain god, as Zhao Yunlan, it seems as if Shen Wei has spent his life watching him from afar, endlessly, a deliberate and well calculated distance between them. Zhao Yunlan is the one instance of happiness he cannot allow himself even as he can't bring himself to stay completely away from him. Steadfast, determined, and resolute, all these traits falter when the detective is in the picture, especially now that they have made personal contact. Zhao Yunlan brings out Shen Wei's worst bouts of indecisiveness, and while he has no qualm about breaking into his apartment to watch him sleep (multiple times) or keeping a shrine dedicated to him in his own home, Shen Wei is very firm in keeping the man at a respectable distance. Zhao is the Ghost Slayer's biggest weakness, the catalyst to trigger an unseen show of anger and drawing emotions other than reserved politeness. Fiercely protective and to a fault, Shen Wei is utterly devastated by the thought of losing him again. Despite his collected and composed nature, he is not completely immune to Zhao Yunlan's charms, if only by virtue of his resistance being worn down after centuries of longing and melancholy. After, Zhao is the only thing he had ever actually wanted.

This fervent desire is the only crack in Shen Wei's otherwise thick armor. As the black-robed Ghost Slayer, he wears his grief and yearning close to his heart under a firm resolution of justice. There is no room for weaknesses in the Ghost Slayer's "indestructible heart of steel". As an arbiter of justice, he is seen as noble and beyond reproach, a touch of malevolent force coming from his origins of brutality and chaos. Finding a place to belong to remains out of his reach as he is surrounded by those who are either afraid of him or want him dead. He is an unstoppable force once he has made up his mind in either form, fighting nail and tooth to set things right. His patience is only matched by his steely resolve to do what is right, rendering him cold in the eyes of those around him. If Shen Wei is performative in his immaculate, sterile human guise, the Ghost Slayer is raw justice and rough bloody edges of exactness and righteousness.
